<p class="Paragraph">If you are searching in one of the HTML based Internent search engines, e.g. in AltaVista for "<help:productname xmlns:help="http://openoffice.org/2000/help">%PRODUCTNAME</help:productname>", the entire URL of this search is shown in the URL input field of your browser. This example would give the following URL:</p>
<p class="Paragraph">This is the first part of the search query. If you have entered several words separated by spaces, the sign in the <span class="T1">Separator</span> field will be used to link them.</p>
<p class="Paragraph">The search terms are passed between the prefix and the suffix.<help:help-text value="visible" xmlns:help="http://openoffice.org/2000/help">The suffix provides the command sequence, sent at the end of a search.</help:help-text> This is as follows for this example:</p>

<p class="Paragraph">How can I determine which prefixes, separators and suffixes to use when I define a new search engine?</p>

<p class="Paragraph"><help:help-text value="visible" xmlns:help="http://openoffice.org/2000/help">In this list box, select the case match for running a search.</help:help-text> The list box contains the following entries: <span class="T1">None</span>, <span class="T1">Upper</span> and <span class="T1">Lower</span>. The search terms entered are converted according to your selection.</p>
<p class="Paragraph">Many search engines handle queries differently according to their format. If you enter a word in lower case in AltaVista, it finds all words regardless of case. If the search word contains just one capital letter, then only words will be found which exactly match. Because of this, it's preferable not to convert words automatically, i.e., by selecting <span class="T1">None</span> for the case match option.</p>
<p class="Paragraph"><help:help-text value="visible" xmlns:help="http://openoffice.org/2000/help">Uses this button to include a new search engine.</help:help-text> <span class="T1">New</span> deletes all important entries of the entry mask such as "Name", "Suffix" etc. Enter the new search engine together with all of the necessary details. As soon as you accept your entries with <span class="T1">Add</span>, the new search engine will appear in the search engine list in the <span class="T1">Search in</span> section. Close the dialog with the <span class="T1">OK</span> button. <text:s text:c="" xmlns:text="http://openoffice.org/2000/text"/>The new search engine is available immediately.</p>
